I have always been in debt, since I was about 3 I think! No obviously not at 3 but you know what I mean, debt has been a real issue in my life and I have honestly struggled with it. It started after university when I left with a rather large amount of debt (thank you student loan!). I didn't worry too much about it then as I assumed that everyone was in the same position but of course that was just misguided naivety.
After I finished my studies I did the typical thing and got a few credit cards, I had a wail of a time spending what I didn't have and not thinking about the consequences. Debt management was not even an issue, I don't think I even thought about the fact I was actually in debt, it simply didn't cross my mind.
When I think of my frivolous attitude and actions with money I wince. How could I have been so blinded to allow so much debt to creep into my life? I had a bit of an epiphany when I was refused the right to purchase something due to my bad credit rating and in turn my unsecured debts, I knew it was time to change my life and my attitude towards my huge debts.
Thankfully I got some great debt advice from professionals who I didn't have to pay a penny, they set me on the right path to sorting out my seemingly overwhelming debt. With a sensible debt management plan I am well on the way to sorting out my debts.
Becoming debt free will take some time still but I can't complain as it was completely my doing and all I can say is I wish I had realised this sooner!
