Top five tips on having a party on a budget!

If, like me, you are in a bit of debt and are trying your damnedest to get out of it you will know that no amount of debt solutions or debt advice will help you have a good time at a birthday, a house warming, a baby shower, an anniversary, a leaving do or even a bar mitzvah when you are broke and worried about money!

So here are my top five helpful pointers on having a great party on a budget and avoid that dreaded debt hangover by overspending!

  1. Make sure whatever party you are planning for that you plan ahead, carefully thought out plans will save you time and money by not rushing around on the day buying stuff you think you need!
  2. Make your own invitations – never buy what you can make at home.
  3. Have the party at home, if your on a budget this is the best solution, plus it will make your guests feel relaxed and enjoyment will ensue!
  4. Make the party food and serve inexpensive appetizers – people are not there to eat but you will save loads of cash by taking a few hours out to preparing some nibbles in stead of rushing out and buying expensive pre packaged goods. Also if you are going to serve food do it 'butler style' i.e on a plate that you walk around with 'serving' people – people will simply take one or two of your offerings as opposed to piling plates high.
  5. Keep the drinks list to a minimum – if you state in your invites that its a Martini party for example, this cuts the drink spend down instantly and if people want to bring other drinks then that is up to them. Don't be afraid to ask people to bring a bottle with them!

Follow this advice and you may just be able to afford a brilliant party while not pushing yourself further into debt!
